SDG #157 Completing the RGB Touch Controller and Europacket delivery from JLCPCB
This episode wraps up the RGB touch controller project, moving it from a partly populated prototype to a working board. The controller is built around a dsPIC microcontroller with capacitive touch input driving RGB LED output, and the focus here is on the practical side of getting the last components placed, reflowed and verified rather than on theory.
The build work covers stencil-free paste application, hot air reflow of the remaining fine pitch and passive parts, and the usual post-reflow inspection under the microscope to catch bridges and tombstoned passives before power is applied. Anyone attempting a similar dsPIC design will find the ordering of assembly steps useful: getting the supporting passives and regulator circuitry correct before the MCU saves a lot of rework, and flux choice makes a visible difference to how cleanly the smaller parts pull into place.
