Golf ball bulbs are the small round lamps commonly used in pendant fittings, bedside lamps and wall lights, and they are one of the categories where cheap far east LED replacements have flooded the market. The question is always the same: does a no name bulb sold for pocket change actually deliver the light output it claims, and will it last?

Rather than cutting the lamp open, this one stays intact because it is genuinely needed in service, and the moulded plastic housing is sealed well enough that a teardown would destroy it. That constraint shifts the focus onto what a buyer can actually judge before committing: the physical build quality, the finish of the diffuser and base, the plausibility of the wattage and equivalent brightness claims printed on the packaging, and how the light looks in a real fitting rather than on a spec sheet.

For anyone shopping for LED retrofits, the takeaway is that inexpensive golf ball lamps can be perfectly serviceable for low use fittings, but claimed lumen figures and colour temperatures on unbranded listings deserve scepticism. Driver quality is the usual weak point in these lamps, and it is hidden inside a sealed body, so failure tends to come from electronics rather than the LEDs themselves. Judging a cheap bulb on light quality and construction is often the most practical assessment available.
