SDG #308 InfiRay P2 Pro 256x192 PCB Inspection Thermal Camera
The InfiRay P2 Pro is a smartphone-attached thermal camera that packs a 256x192 sensor and 25 Hz refresh rate into a body roughly 28 x 18 x 9 mm, which makes it far less awkward than a standalone handheld unit. This review focuses on whether those specs actually translate into useful bench work for electronics, rather than just quoting the datasheet.
The key finding for anyone doing board-level diagnostics is that the bare camera is not a close-up tool. Focus falls apart inside roughly 30 cm, so PCB work realistically depends on the optional magnetic macro lens. With that fitted, individual 0402 passives and the pins on a USB-C connector resolve clearly, but the depth of field is very shallow and the working distance sits around 35 mm. Holding that by hand is fiddly, so a simple stand or rig is worth building if you intend to inspect boards properly rather than just sweeping a powered board for an obviously hot part.
The P2 Pro app covers the expected ground: palette selection, stills and video capture, spot temperature markers, box and line measurement with average, min and max readings, emissivity presets, ambient and distance compensation, and image rotation for use on the supplied USB-C extension lead. The high image quality mode trades the full minus 20 to 550 C span for a cleaner picture, while wide range gets noticeably grainier. Visible-light blending exists but the overlays do not align well, so treat it as a reminder of what you were looking at rather than a measurement aid. Video recording did drag the frame rate slightly on the test phone, which suggests handset performance matters here.
