The 120W control unit is examined alongside the I-TOOL handpiece, which uses a comparatively long, slim cartridge design with the heater and sensor integrated into the tip assembly rather than a separate replaceable element.

The handpiece is assessed on grip diameter, cable flexibility, weight balance and how easily tips can be swapped using the cradle’s built-in extraction slot. The cradle itself gets attention because it doubles as a stand, sponge holder and tip changer, and the quality of that accessory matters more than buyers expect on a station used daily.

A teardown of the control unit shows the internal construction, transformer versus switching supply choices, board layout and general serviceability, which is a fair indicator of how repairable the unit will be years into ownership. From there the station is powered up and the menu system explored, covering setpoint handling, standby behaviour, password locking and the calibration routine. Overshoot on reaching setpoint is measured, since excessive overshoot is a known cause of tip wear and damage to heat-sensitive parts.
